Degrees and Credentials

Dr. Wallmann graduated with an MS PT degree from the University of Indianapolis, Krannert Graduate School of Physical Therapy in 1989 and a Doctor of Science (DSc) from Loma Linda University in 2000.

His prior credentials include a BA in Movement and Sports Science and an MS in Exercise Physiology, both from Purdue University. He currently holds licensure in Arizona, Indiana, and Ohio. Dr. Wallmann holds certifications as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and currently practices at Strength Training, Inc. (STI) as an orthopaedic and sports physical therapist. 

Early Career

Dr. Wallmann initially worked as a physical therapist in the early 1990s and worked for STI from 1992-96 before he embarked on his career in academia.

He began his physical therapy teaching career at UNLV, in Las Vegas, NV in 1997 where he was founding Director of the Program. During this time he was extensively involved with the accreditation process and was directly responsible for UNLV’s initial accreditation in 2000 and subsequent reaccreditation in 2005. Additionally, he spearheaded the transition of UNLV’s Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy to a Doctoral degree program in 2005.

Since 2011

He was also the founding Director/Department Head of the DPT Program at Western Kentucky University (WKU) from 2011 to 2018 in addition to serving 1 year as the Chair of the Allied Health Department and, for the last 3 years prior to coming to STI, served as professor and Department Chair/Program Director at the University of Findlay in Ohio. 

At the national level, he completed a term serving as the Chair of the Sports Specialty Council for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. He has collaborated with researchers from many disciplines besides physical therapy, including nursing, kinesiology, athletic training, engineering, and nutrition.

Currently, he has over 65 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters as well as dozens of poster and platform presentations and abstracts. Most of his research focuses on the areas of balance, gait training, and the effects of stretching on human performance. He also served as the associate editor for North America for the international journal Physical Therapy in Sport for 7 years, served on the editorial boards for Home Health Care Management & Practice as well as ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal, and served as a manuscript reviewer for 12 different professional journals.
